A fine quality handcrafted cover for 3 1/2″ by 5 1/2″ by 1/2″ (9x14x1.3cm) journals like the Moleskine Classic, Office Depot’s Foray series, Piccadilly’s Essential Notebook, etc. We’ve copied these from Civil War pocket diaries common to the period. Like the originals, our version features a wrap-around flap that tucks under a leather strap. They are blind-tooled around the edges and can be further customized with gold tooling (see “PERSONALIZATION” below)

The Hamilton Variation for the Moleskine “Soft-cover ruled notebooks”, 192 pages with expandable inner pocket. Commissioned as props for the upcoming musical about P. T. Barnum (“The Greatest Showman” with Hugh Jackman), these have slightly different dimensions, an inner sleeve extending all the way to the shoulder (to look less like a sleeve) and a pencil loop at the foredge for intrepid reporters (pictured in red below). Lined with cloth and priced at $95. They can be ordered in all the standard colors.

This project comes from our Civil War Diary facsimile which offers period printed matter, a handsewn textblock, inner pocket, handmarbled paper, etc. For the purist, nothing else will do, but they’re fairly intricate to make and somewhat more expensive. We hope this version offers both the Civil War Reenactor and any lover of fine journals a modest alternative.

They are bound in genuine morocco (the classic name for goatskin), vegetable-tanned, and lined with either coated “endsheet” stock (the Standard) or with cloth (The Hamilton). Your journal is slid into the inner pockets, and you’ll find the cover functions as if the journal was bound in place. Removal and replacement of the textblock is just as easy, and we hope this cover will last through many skirmishes, encampments, and campaigns. (If your notebook comes with an elastic strap, you may wish to remove it.)

The Standard: $85
The Hamilton Variation: $95

COLORS: We currently offer these in black, dark brown, saddle tan, navy blue, green, evergreen, bright red, medium red, and burgundy. Please tell us what color you’d like.

PERSONALIZATION:
We’ll add the Civil War “DIARY” stamp (pictured on the Civil War Soldier’s Pocket Diary page) for an additional $5, three initials for $10, or a name for $15. If you’d like further customization of the leather, size, etc., don’t hesitate to ask. We can make just about anything!
